Obituary for W. Stanley McDermott

Stanley entered into eternal rest at his home in New York City surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 24th. He was born on November 17, 1923 in Piermont, New York to Lillian H. (Billington) and John J. McDermott. He attended Columbia and Rutgers Universities. He enlisted in the U S Army Air Corp during World War II and served in the China, Burma, and India Theatre. He was a survivor of the HMT Rohna troop ship sinking in November of 1943, the single greatest loss of American lives at sea during the war. This tragedy was attributed to the first use of a German guided bomb during WWII. His professional career in the forest products industry began at the Camp Manufacturing Company in Franklin, VA. Subsequently he served in a number of executive positions in the forest products industry in and around New York City. In the early 1950's he began his long career at Bulkley Dunton and Company rising to the positions of CEO and Chairman until his retirement in 2002. Stanley was a long time member and member of the Board of Governors of the Union League Club of New York. He was also an avid golfer and member of the Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly, New Jersey.

Stanley is survived by his dear companion Charlotte Hewson of New York, NY his sons William S. (Dina) of Bedford, NY and Bruce H. (Joana) of New York, NY as well as by two granddaughters Alyson and Louisa. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 30 at 10am at The Church of our Savior, 59 Park Avenue at 38th Street, New York, NY.
